Answers to common questions about membership, benefits, and getting involved.
Do I need to be a "software engineer" to join?
We exist to uplift everyone in the software profession; from students and career changers to experienced developers and engineers across all titles.
Is NSOSE open to international members?
At this time, NSOSE is focused on serving the software engineering profession within the United States. Membership is limited to U.S.-based professionals or residents with a strong connection to the U.S. software industry.
Can I use “M.NSOSE” or “A.NSOSE” on my resume or profile?
Yes. Active members may use the “M.NSOSE” designation (Member of the National Society of Software Engineers) to reflect full professional membership. Those enrolled under introductory or student tiers may use “A.NSOSE” (Associate Member) while their membership remains current and in good standing.
Is the mailing list the same as membership?
No. Subscribing to our mailing list gives you occasional updates, but full members receive access to future benefits, a certificate, and recognition as part of the professional community.
Can I upgrade my membership later?
Yes. If you start with a lower tier (e.g. student or professional), you can upgrade to a higher tier at any time through your member profile page.
